Signed Hunt Slonem Limited Edition Anthurium Serigraph
ExcellentA pop art still life serigraph by Hunt Slonem entitled, "Anthurium." This is a great expression of Hunt Slonem's style. This limited edition is signed by the artist in pencil, lower right.
Called a Neo-Expressionist, Hunt Slonem inserts realism into his Abstract Expressionism. He combines Abstract Expressionist techniques with mysticism and animal subjects of Islam and Mexico. Slonem is best known for his paintings of tropical birds, based on a personal aviary in which he keeps about 100 live birds of various species.
Born in Kittery Maine, he spent his childhood in various states including California, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Hawaii, Virginia and Washington because his father was in the Navy. During college, he lived in Mexico and Nicaragua, and these cultures much influenced his art. He studied art at Vanderbilt and Tulane and spent a summer at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. In 1972, he moved to New York and started using Nicaraguan holy cards as subject matter for his paintings. His oeuvre showcases many pieces of religious subject matter, in particular, depictions of Saints. In the 1980s, after three trips to India, his work became more formal and complex in composition. He started using hatch marks in 1988. He builds patterns of repeat images of the bird subject and paints them in recognizable settings such as cages. He also paints the human figure, some of them based on photos of Valentino. His work came on the avant-garde art scene when he moved to New York. There he did some huge, panoramic murals, including an 85-foot long frieze for the Bryant Park Grill. His focus is on the act of painting and he does not strive to convey a narrative message. He paints quickly, and often his colors are jarring. He is fascinated by the manipulation of paint. He usually begins by filling in a canvas with one color, then blocks in other hues, adds the animals or figures, and then the hatched scratch marks. -

Signed Framed Giancarlo Impiglia Tennis Player Serigraph
ExcellentA framed serigraph by Giancarlo Impiglia (Italian/American, 1940 - ), which is entitled "Tennis Player," features the contemporary art-deco style that Impiglia has made famous. It was printed in 1982 and is from an edition of 300.
Giancarlo Impiglia was born in Rome, Italy, on March 9, 1940. He studied at the "Liceo Artistico," (Artistic Lyceum), and at the 'Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma," (Academy of Fine Arts of Rome), where he specialized in murals and mosaics, under the direction of some of the major Italian postwar artists: Giuseppe Capogrossi, Giuho Turcato, Umberfo Mastroianni, Mario Mafai and others. Giancarlo Impiglia is widely recognized as one of the most influential artists of contemporary Art Deco style. By boldly combining hard-edged, abstract human figures with shimmering colors, Impiglia creates a kinetic vision that captures the rhythm of urban life. He juxtaposes static images with carefully planned and controlled geometric patterns, suggesting movement. This evocative imagery simultaneously conveys the joy, excitement, loneliness and sophistication of everyday life in a bustling metropolis. His figures are faceless. Personalities are defined only by sharply drawn profiles - a subtle commentary on the anonymity of city living. -

He has used the income from the sale of these "investigations," as he calls his prints, to establish a socio-cultural foundation in Aix-en-Provence, France, for the study of the integration of plastic beauty at all levels of the urban environment. He is represented in major museums all over the world and has received many artistic and honorary awards. Among these distinctions are the French Legion of Honor, the Guggenheim Prize, and the Gold Medal of the Triennale in Milan. -
Signed Framed Arman Limited Editiom Blue And Orange Pizzicato Serigraph
ExcellentA signed framed limited edition serigraph by Arman, French (1929 - 2005) entitled "Blue and Orange Pizzicato," is signed by the artist in pencil, lower right and numbered in pencil, lower left. This is an exceptional piece that represents Arman's work with violins and abstract modernism.
The French Armand Pierre Fernandez, born in 1928, is one of the most important international object artists and a co-founder and member of the Nouveau Réalisme. He studied at the Ecole Nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Nice from 1946 to 1949 and then continued his studies for two years at the Ecole du Louvre in Paris. An acquaintance with Yves Klein led to the idea of organizing joint happenings and events, which the two artists realized in 1953. Armand's neo-Dadaist 'Cachets' (stamp prints) of 1955, and later the 'Allures' (prints made with objects dipped into paint) and the 'Coupés' (cut-up objects) followed by the 'Colères' (objects which were smashed and then mounted) were still influenced by Kurt Schwitters. When the last letter of his name was accidentally forgotten on a catalogue cover in 1958, he decided to keep this spelling. The artist discovered his famous 'Poubelles', Plexiglas cases with rubbish cast in resin, at the beginning of the 1960s. From the 'Poubelles' Arman developed the so-called 'Accumulations', a number of the same objects assembled in show cases.
Together with Klein, Tinguely, Raysse and César, Arman is one of the most important artists of the Nouveau Réalisme. Since the 1950s he has been honored with numerous international exhibitions and has presented works twice at the documenta 3 and 6 in Kassel.
Arman is known for his work with cigars, violins, and paint brushes, this piece is an exemplary example of his work with violins. -

He has held major exhibits in Rome, Copenhagen, Monte Carlo, Reno, Paris, TelAviv and many other cities. In 1978, two of his works were accepted into the permanent collection of the Louvre Museum in Paris. Their chief curator has said of Azoulay. "He is an artist whose varied works let us predict a very bright future." He has achieved international recognition as a successful and truly gifted artist. His unique self-taught style conveys strong illusions of fluid motion. His subjects appear to be caught in a vital moment of life. He does not use models, preferring to rely on his imagination. He is extremely proud of his Jewish tradition and Sephardic heritage and has expressed his feeling of pride through many of his works of art. Guillaume Azoulay was presented with the Yehuda Halevi Award on February 12, 1986. One of his most notable accomplishments is the fact that Azoulay is the youngest artist to be accepted in the permanent archives of the Musee du Louvre, in Paris. -
Signed Mimmo Rotella Limited Edition Pepsi-Cola Serigraph
ExcellentThis is a fantastic example of the art work that transformed the country of Italy by Mimmo Rotella, Italian (1918 - 2006). Rotella is known for his collages of movie and advertisement posters. In this place, Rotella utilizes an advertisement for Pepsi-Cola. The 1979 serigraph is signed by Rotella in pencil, lower right and numbered in pencil, lower left.
Mimmo Rotella was born in Catanzaro on the 7th of October 1918, the son of a milliner. Following high school he moved to Naples where he began art studies (in 1941 he went to Rome after having obtained a post at the Ministry of Postal and Telecommunication Services). Already recognized by criticism at the close of the 1950's as being an exponent of the "Young Roman Painting, Rotella was labeled as the 'poster ripper' or the 'painter of glued paper'. At night, armed with a penknife, he not only ripped off posters but also pieces of the metal sheeting and zinc of the mounting frames of the billboard zones of the Rome City Council. He was a member of the influential French Nouveaux Realistes group. In 1999 the Mayor of his natal city, Sergio Abramo, signed a City Council order authorizing Rotella to freely remove posters in Catanzaro and its environs.
Nothing illustrates more vividly the hectic post-war art scene than the scintillating career of the Italian experimental artist Mimmo Rotella. -

Signed Arman Limited Edition Untitled 5 Violins 1978 Black & Red Serigraph
PristineSigned Limited Edition Arman 1978 serigraph entitled "Untitled 5 Violins" is signed by the artist in pencil, lower right and numbered 142 of 150 by the artist in pencil, lower left.
Credited for changing the look and feel of the art world throughout the twentieth century, Arman built a reputation for creating pieces that focused on breaking down an every day object and extracting the inherent beauty of each from within. Arman began training as an artist at an earl age, with lessons from his father in photography and oil painting and continued his formal training at both Ecole Nationale d'Art Decoratif in Nice and Ecole du Louvre in Paris, where he studied the style and techniques of the Old Masters.
Although Arman was taught in the formal methods of the great artists of the past, he explored his penchant for working in the abstract method. Experimenting with the abstract, Arman would often dip one of his every day objects into paint and place it directly onto the canvas multiple times in order for the viewer to discern the beauty of the juxtaposed object. Arman showcases his desire to transform his every day objects into beautiful works of art in his 1978 serigraph entitled "Untitled 5 Violins." Many of Arman's pieces consisted of musical instruments, as his father was a trained cellist. Using only black and red to bring the barrage of violins to life against the white background, Arman forces the viewer to look beyond the object to experience the simplistic beauty of each instrument. -

This untitled serigraph showcases Yaacov Agam's work and talents with the abstract, optical art kinetic art (art with movement). Signed Victor Vasarely Limited Edition Kezdi-Ga Serigraph
ExcellentA signed limited edition serigraph by Victor Vasarely, Hungarian (1908 - 1997) entitled "Kezdi-Ga." This piece is an excellent example of Vasarely's work in the world of optical art. This piece is signed by the artist in pencil, lower right and numbered in pencil, lower left.
Hungarian-born Victor Vasarely is known as a founder of optical art. He studied at the Bauhaus Muhely in Budapest and in 1930 moved to Paris where he developed his particular vision which stems from the idea of democratizing the art object. Influenced greatly by the problems of the world's cities, he feels his work offers a solution by presenting a clear view of the "color-surface-perception" relationship. -
Signed Allan D'Arcangelo Limited Edition Smoke Dreams Serigraph
ExcellentA pop art serigraph entitled "Smoke Dreams" by Allan D'Arcangelo (American 1930-1998). This piece was created in 1980 and highlights both his experimentation with the American highway and also the feminine figure. This piece, which is from an edition of 250, is signed and numbered by the artist in pencil.
Allan D'Arcangelo was born in Buffalo, New York. He earned a degree in history from the University of Buffalo and then moved to Mexico City where he studied art and, in 1958, had his first one-man show. His style, loosely termed "hard edge" or constructivist art, is based on spatial relationships. A keen sense of perception, complemented by expert use of color tones and shadows, points up these relationships within his forceful compositions. His reputation as a Pop artist was established by his one-man exhibition where he showed his first acrylic paintings of the American highway and industrial landscape, such as Highway U.S. 1 -- No. 3 (1963; Richmond, VA Mus. F.A.). It has been said that D'Arcangelo "has the ability to defy, yet document, spatial relationships at the same time." The recipient of fifteen awards and commissions, D 'Arcangelo has had frequent solo exhibitions, many of which traveled to prominent museums throughout America. His work appears in more than thirty public collections, including those of the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim Museum, and the Brooklyn Museum in New York, the Detroit Institute of Art, and the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis. -

Signed Victor Vasarely Limited Edition Detvoe Serigraph
ExcellentA signed limited edition serigraph by Victor Vasarely, Hungarian (1908 - 1997) entitled "Detvoe." It is a serigraph that was created by the artist in 1990. This piece is an excellent example of Vasarely's work in the world of optical art.
Signed Framed Alex Katz Limited Edition The Swimmer Serigraph
ExcellentA wonderful framed serigraph entitled "The Swimmer" by the pop portraitist, Alex Katz. This serigraph is signed by the artist in pencil, lower right and numbered in pencil, left and features Alex Katz's famous portrait-pop style and was created in 1992.
Alex Katz is a leading figure painter of the new realism movement in contemporary art. He is best known for his realistic portraits of friends and family, notable for their relaxed attitudes and uncomplicated bearing. Katz was born in New York City, and studied art at the Cooper Union from 1945 to 1949. In the late 1950s, he found himself among a growing number of artists dissatisfied with the then-dominant stream of abstract expressionism, with its emphasis on formal abstraction. A summer resident of Lincolnville, Maine since 1954, he has developed a close relationship with local Colby College. The college presented him with an honorary doctorate in 1984. In October 1996, the Colby College Museum of Art opened a wing dedicated to Katz that features more than 400 oil paintings, collages, and prints donated by the artist.
