Description
Charles Cobelle's 1959 watercolor painting on paper entitled "Circus Band" is signed by the artist in black oil paint, lower right. This painting is in very good condition with minor scuffing around the edges and slight staining around the white border.
Having studied at Marc Chagall and Raoul Dufy, it is no surprise that the whimsical theme of the circus is the subject for Cobelle's "Circus Band." Cobelle evokes a dreamlike sense with energetic figures and structures that dance on air. The rendering of enigmatic figures within a fun backdrop enhances the vigor and life within the painting.
The artist infuses a barrage of vibrant colors to depict the energetic movement of circus life. Cobelle focuses on the intensity of the radiant hues to emphasize the fun and light atmosphere often captured within the circus setting. Bright colors of pink, yellow and orange intensities radiate timeless vitality and warmth.
