Having worked in the theatre industry in various countries, it is no surprise that Ranucci was fascinated with studying various figures from different walks of life within his artwork. Scenes of the circus, theatre and carnival were often seen in his work as they were among his favorite to study.
Ranucci's figures often convey a feeling of melancholy, which is enhanced by the large and wide eyes accompanied by dark eyebrows. By using black to outline all of the figures and objects within this painting, Ranucci creates a scene similar to a stained glass window, in which all of the color fields are separated from one another.
