    Although Cobelle continues to create a whimsical scene in which the figures appear to be floating on air, his use of darker and richer colors evokes a more sober and realistic atmosphere. Place de la Concorde is the biggest area in Paris, carrying an abundance of French symbolism. During the Revolution, Place de la Concorde held the dreaded guillotine that took the lives of Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI. The grand obelisk, or Obelisk of Luxor that marked the entrance to the, in the center was a gift from Egypt and represented the new era after the Revolution.
