  1. Signed Framed John Baeder Ltd Ed Untitled House With Trailer Etching

Signed Framed John Baeder Ltd Ed Untitled House With Trailer Etching

    Excellent
A signed framed limited edition etching by John Baeder, American (1938 - ). John Baeder is well known for his photo-realist portraits of American diners and general Americana. This is piece that incorporates 1950s and 60s classic American.

John Baeder, born in South Bend, Ind., 1938, studied at Auburn University in Alabama. His subjects have been almost exclusively isolated roadside diners and eateries. John Baeder is one of the best known of the Photorealists. His popular paintings and prints of roadside diners so capture the pulse of America that his images have entered the secondary market as reproductions on posters, calendars, and postcards (here the energy comes full circle, as old postcards were an important source of inspiration for the paintings.) The Disney Company, Coca Cola, and fashion moguls Perry Ellis, Liz Claiborne, and Guess have appropriated them. The diners appear on memorabilia-oriented merchandise, such as painted plates, and in three dimensions as butter dishes, planters, canisters, etc. (part of an extensive ceramic line produced by Sigma/Towle in 1979 and 1980). Their appeal is so strong that the authors of a book based on the art deco style chose to illustrate the sleek design of New York City's Empire Diner with Baeder's highly expressive painting of that diner, rather than with an actual photograph. That an artist can concentrate so masterfully on one theme enticed Abrahams to publish "Diners by John Baeder" in 1978. Recently in November of 2007 another book of Baeder's paintings was published entitled " Pleasant Journeys and Good Eats Along the Way: The Paintings of John Baeder."

Photo-realist artwork such as Baeder's is a very time demanding artistic process and the style is one of the hottest today. This piece really captures a moment in time for our American history, and will bring great style to any space.

  2. Signed Framed Red Grooms Limited Edition Self-Portrait in a Crowd Etching

Signed Framed Red Grooms Limited Edition Self-Portrait in a Crowd Etching

    Excellent
An early example of the great pop art work of Red Grooms (American, 1937 - ). This framed piece was printed in 1962 and is an etching on hand-made Rives paper entitled, "Self-Portrait in a Crowd" from the portfolio "International Anthology of Contemporary Engraving, vol. 5: America Discovered." It is from the 15 EA (Artist's Proof) editions from this series of prints. Published by Galerie Schwarz, Milan, 1964 and hand printed by G. Leblanc, Paris.

Red Grooms was born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1937. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the New School for Social Research, New York. In the 1950s Grooms moved to New York City to immerse himself in the art scene. For nearly fifty years Grooms has combined color, vibrancy, and a generous dose of self-deprecating humor to produce art in all media that provokes and delights. He pokes fun at the icons of American politics, entertainment, the art world, while paying homage to his subjects at the same time. No artist since Honoré Daumier has had a greater understanding of humor or a more direct connection to his audience. In return, Grooms has earned the public's unqualified admiration and appreciation.

  3. Signed Framed Al Hirschfeld Limited Edition Hello Dolly (Streisand & Matthau) Etching

Signed Framed Al Hirschfeld Limited Edition Hello Dolly (Streisand & Matthau) Etching

    Excellent
An etching by the famed caricature artist Al Hirschfeld. Hirschfeld style of caricature art truly brought class to the art form. In this framed etching by Al Hirschfeld he transforms the famous scene from Hello Dolly where Barbara Streisand and Walter Matthau meet.

Al Hirschfeld was born in St. Louis on the first day of summer, 1903. When he was eleven years old, an art teacher informed his mother, "There is nothing more we can teach him in St. Louis." The family moved forthwith to New York. Soon he was enrolled at the Art Student's League. Hirschfeld has never had to convince anyone that he's a genius; it has always been apparent. In 1991, Al Hirschfeld became the first artist in history to have his name on a U.S. Postage Stamp Booklet when the United States Postal Service released the five stamps they commissioned Hirschfeld to design. The stamps portray Laurel & Hardy, Jack Benny, Edgar Bergen & Charlie McCarthy, Abbott & Costello, and Fanny Brice. The stamps were issued in books of 20 - four sets each of the five Hirschfeld designs. Hirschfeld's drawings have appeared in The New York Times, of course, and also The New Yorker, Playbill, TV Guide, TV Guide Canada, Town & Country, Playboy, Mirabella, People Magazine, New Masses, Collier's, Life, Time, Look, The Washingtonian, The Los Angeles Times, Business Week, Rolling Stone, Reader's Digest, Print, See, Talk, and so many more newspapers, magazines, and periodicals that naming them all is like counting stars in the sky. Hirschfeld passed away in 2003.

Barbra Streisand (1942 -) is an American singer, film and theatre actress. She has also achieved some note as a composer, political activist, film producer and director. She has won Academy Awards for Best Actress and Best Original Song as well as multiple Emmy Awards, Grammy Awards, and Golden Globe Awards. She is one of the most commercially and critically successful female entertainers in modern entertainment history and one of the best selling solo recording artists in the US, with RIAA-certified shipments of over 71 million albums. She is the highest ranking female artist on the Recording Industry Association of America's (RIAA) Top Selling Artists list. She has sold approximately 147 million albums worldwide.

Walter John Matthau (1920 -- 2000) was an American award-winning actor best known for his role as Oscar Madison in The Odd Couple and his frequent collaborations with fellow Odd Couple star Jack Lemmon. Success came late for Matthau. In 1965, aged 44, Neil Simon cast him in the hit play The Odd Couple opposite Jack Lemmon. In 1966, he again achieved success as a shady lawyer opposite future friend and frequent co-star, actor Jack Lemmon, in The Fortune Cookie. During filming, the film had to be placed on a five month hiatus after he suffered a heart attack.

The etching is from 1987 and is signed in pencil, lower right and numbered in pencil, lower left by the artist Al Hirschfeld. This print really brings the beauty and grace of Hello Dolly and the class of Hirschfeld's work into one extravagant piece.

  4. Signed Framed Salvador Dali Limited Edition Pastorale Etching

Signed Framed Salvador Dali Limited Edition Pastorale Etching

    Excellent
An etching by the famous surrealist Salvador Dali entitled "Pastorale" from his portfolio Historia de Don Quichotte de la Mancha. This work is signed by the artist in pencil, lower right and numbered in pencil, lower left. Printed on Arches paper. This is a wonderfully framed piece that showcases Dali's use of surrealism and the work Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra.

Salvador Dali was born in May 11, 1904 in the small agricultural town of Figueres, Spain. Dalà became a leader of the surrealist movement. His painting, The Persistence of Memory, with the soft or melting watches is still one of the best-known surrealist works. But as the war approached, the apolitical Dalà clashed with the surrealists and was "expelled" from the surrealist group during a "trial" in 1934. He did however, exhibit works in international surrealist exhibitions throughout the decade but by 1940, Dalà was moving into a new style that eventually became known as his "classic" period, demonstrating a preoccupation with science and religion. As an artist, Salvador Dalà was not limited to a particular style or media. The body of his work, from early impressionist paintings through his transitional surrealist works, and into his classical period, reveals a constantly growing and evolving artist. Dalà worked in all media, leaving behind a wealth of oils, watercolors, drawings, graphics, and sculptures, jewels and objects of all descriptions.

This is an exquisite example of the work of Salvador Dali is a great example of the impact and beauty that Dali has brought to the world of art.

  9. Signed Framed Louis Icart Hydrangeas Color Etching

Signed Framed Louis Icart Hydrangeas Color Etching

    Excellent
A gorgeous etching by the acclaimed French artist, Louis Icart (1880 - 1950), which is entitled "Hydrangeas." This framed piece was printed in 1929 and is a perfect example of the work of Icart.

Louis Icart (1880 - 1950) was born in Toulouse, France. He began drawing at an early age. He was particularly interested in fashion, and became famous for his sketches almost immediately. He worked for major design studios at a time when fashion was undergoing a radical change, from the fussiness of the late nineteenth century to the simple, form fitting lines of the early twentieth century. Icart fought in World War I, where he relied on his art to stem his anguish, sketching on every available surface. When he returned from the front, he created prints from those drawings. The prints, most of which were aquatints and drypoints, showed great skill and attention to detail. Because they were much in demand, Icart frequently made two editions (one European, the other American) to satisfy his public. In each of his drawings, one sees the Impressionist style of Degas and Monet and, in his rare watercolors, the Symbolist style of Odilon Redon and Gustave Moreau. In fact, Icart lived outside the fashionable artistic movements of the time and was not completely sympathetic to contemporary art. Nonetheless, his Parisian scenes are a documentation of the life he saw around him and they are nearly as popular today as when they were first produced.

One of the artist's most frequently depicted subject matters was the nude figure.

As one of the founding members of the Cubist movement, Picasso rendered figures broken up, analyzed, and re-assembled in an abstracted form. Picasso completed the 156 Series between 1970-1972 at the end of his life, exhibiting more freedom with his figures in a sensually expressive manner while still utilizing many elements of cubism re-invented in new ways. Using few lines in a monochromatic tone, Picasso showcases his skill as a draftsman and his interest and the inspiration found with the nude female figure.
