  1. Signed Charles Cobelle Horse Race Oil on Canvas Painting

Signed Charles Cobelle Horse Race Oil on Canvas Painting

    Excellent
Signed Charles Cobelle oil on canvas painting entitled, "Horse Race," is signed by the artist in black paint, lower right.

Having studied at l'Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris, it is no surprise the Charles Cobelle would enjoy success as one of the leading French artists during much of the twentieth century. The chic and sophisticated lifestyle associated with French culture was a subject commonly depicted by the artist, as he focused on capturing the magnificent light associated with Paris and the decadent architecture and styles that emerged from the European city. Studying under Marc Chagall and Raoul Dufy, Cobelle evokes a whimsical and dreamlike sense with his figures and structures often dancing on air through the space of his pictures.

Cobelle commonly portrayed the equestrian theme and settings as seen in this oil on canvas entitled "Horse Race." In this painting, which is a dramatic departure from his bright landscapes of Paris and whimsical circus themes, Cobelle maintains his ability to convey strong images and figures that help to create his magical settings. A vibrant barrage of bold colors brings the dramatic setting to life through the energetic and large horses that dominate this scene. Showcasing his masterful attention to detail, Cobelle uses loose and fluid strokes to bring every aspect of this painting to life and make the viewer feel as if they are an active participant of the dramatic race and are fully engulfed in the action.

In 1900, Picasso’s first exhibition took place in Barcelona and that Fall he went to Paris for the first of several stays during the early years of the century. Picasso settled in Paris in April 1904, and soon his circle of friends included Guillaume Apollinaire, Max Jacob, Gertrude and Leo Stein and two dealers, Ambroise Vollard and Berthe Weill.

By 1936, the Spanish Civil War had profoundly affected Picasso, the expression of which culminated in his painting Guernica (1937, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid). Picasso’s association with the Communist Party began in 1944. From the late 1940s, he lived in the South of France. 8. Signed Robert Rauschenberg Limited Edition Current and Surface 1 Hand-Printed Silkscreen

Signed Robert Rauschenberg Limited Edition Current and Surface 1 Hand-Printed Silkscreen

    Excellent
An original hand-printed silkscreen by the great contemporary artist Robert Rauschenberg, American (1925 - 2008), which is signed by the artist in pencil, lower right and numbered in pencil, lower left. This is from his series entitled "Current and Surface" where he uses his famous collage process recreated with silkscreens.

Born Milton Rauschenberg in Texas in 1925, he received a sound art education. He attended Kansas City Art Institute in 1947, and then the renowned Academie Julien in Paris in 1948. Process, object, environment and artist intertwine in Robert Rauschenberg's work. He embodies most of the ideas of this century's modern art, yet his powerful, idiosyncratic works are like those of no other artist. Rauschenberg’s work is contradictory. He sees the artist as a participant or reporter rather than a creator, but the stamp of his style and personality is evident in each of his paintings. Though his is an art of the concept, the idea, there is evident enjoyment in his engagement with the medium of expression and the material world.

Whatever the judgment of later generations, Robert Rauschenberg is regarded as a tremendously influential force in twentieth-century art.
